RE-INVENTION IS THE NEW BLACK.  I just made that up, btw…. Since my last post – which was too long ago to point out – I launched an e-commerce business, had probably 17 mini-meltdowns from the craziness, gained some great new friends, ramped up my social media skills and sailed through it all with a magical elixir known only by my pharmacist and bartender. It appears that no matter what other waters I dip my toes in – writing, interior design, building – my blood is deeply laced with the retail I know as intimately as the age spots on the back of my hand....

The Feeling is Virtual

As I hit the “send” button on my Christmas greetings for 2012, the irony was as thick as plum pudding.   The sepia-hued image of me and my father posed before a wall of Christmas cards was now – exactly 50 years later – being sent  in a way that will forever render this kind of image as a curious quirk of the 20th century.  My “card” this year is virtual.  It’s virtually a card.  Not really a card at all.  Forward … Christmas 2063, “Daddy, what is all that stuff stuck on the wall??” Taking my cue from my mother, the sending of...

Well, fast forward and we have also shared changing careers, wacky parties and lots of fun scheming.  Fringe benefit?  Steve’s wife Caroline who is the elegantly grounded yin to Steve’s razzle...

That meant everyone waited.  The writer of that day’s commercial, who happened to also be her ex-step-daughter, Carrie Fisher.  The legendary photographer; also her dear friend Herb Ritts.  Stylist – and Mick Jagger’s paramour – L’Wren Scott.  And a host of supporting characters – make-up artists, hair stylists, wardrobe, lighting grips, assistants, the head of marketing for Elizabeth Arden and me, U.S. Regional Sales Director –...
